Hi, Took a short break from the festivities this afternoon to do some birding. After seeing the reports of the Northern Hawk Owl on Hastings Street, I dropped by for 15 minutes at around 2:30 and had great views of the bird sitting up in a tree. At one point, it was mobbed by a Hairy Woodpecker. Then visited the Hilda Rd feeder at Shirley's Bay. Nothing out of the ordinary, but while backing the car out to exit the NCC parking area at approx 3:25, I saw two Ruffed Grouse about 4 feet up a tree at the back (east side) of the parking lot. Merry Christmas. Remy Poulin Ottawa Directions: For the Northern Hawk Owl (from Bruce Di Labio's recent post) - From Ottawa take Hwy. 417 west to Moodie Drive exit #134. Go north to Carling Ave. and turn left. Watch for Grandview Road on your right. Follow to the end and turn left on Hastings Str. and park. For the Ruffed Grouse - From the Northern Hawk Owl, return to Carling Ave and turn right (west). Continue on Carling until Rifle Rd, turn right and follow it almost to the end. The parking lot (P1) is on the right-hand side of Rifle Rd (east side) just past Lois Ave.
