I apologize for the late nature of this posting, but it only just
occurred to me now that there may be folks here who may be interested in
this.
For the last month or so, a friend of mine who lives in Moonbeam Ontario
has had a Ring-necked Pheasant frequenting his feeders. Very unusual for
that location at any time of the year.
Three weeks ago during a brutally cold snap he noticed that the bird's
tail and vent were encrusted with ice and it seemed to be struggling, so he
(apparently very easily) managed to herd it into his shed where it spent a
few days recovering and enjoying Moonbeam hospitality. Two weeks ago he
released it and it is still doing well, a frequent visitor to his feeders.
This friend is among other things an excellent photographer. I do have a
few photos that he passed along to me (I'd be happy to pass them along upon
request), and I believe he said he has about 50 more photos and video of the
bird. I haven't seen those, but could request them if someone wanted me to.
Moonbeam is a small town on Highway 11 (the Northern Route of the
Trans-Canada Highway) about 20 km east of Kapuskasing, in Northern Ontario.
Its main attactions are Remi Lake and Rene Brunelle Provincial Park... turn
north onto Highway 581 at the UFO.
