Hi everyone,

Sorry for the late post but I didn't think anyone would rush out to see these
birds. I just thought they would be of more general interest especially at
this late of a date.

Yesterday while driving from Sault Ste. Marie to southern Ontario, to my
surprise I came across 7 Whimbrel feeding in a ploughed field with a flock of
Snow Buntings nearly beside them. The birds flushed from the ploughed field
and flew to a nearby hayfield. These were on the Trans-Canada highway(17) and
were only a few hundred meters before Neebish Rd. which is about 14km south of
Echo Bay and 25km to Desbarats as the crow flies.

Also for general interest, during the drive between Sault Ste. Marie and
Sudbury were 14 Rough-legged Hawks, 2 Red-tails, 3 Golden Eagles and 8 Bald
Eagles (These numbers weren't that exciting considering the huge numbers of
hawks and eagles that were on Mackinac Island that morning).

Later in the day I saw 3 Pine grosbeaks near Iron Bridge along the Mississagi
River.

To get there (Whimbrels) take the Trans-Canada west towards Sault Ste. Marie
from southern Ontario and go just beyond Desbarats or take the Trans-Canada
east from Sault Ste. Marie. A close UTM co-ordinate taken from MapSource would
be 16T 725535 5137715.

Cheers,
Ben Walters
