This afternoon between 2:00 & 3:30, I saw a flock of 25 Eastern Bluebirds flying east over the North Toronto Treatment Plant. Just to the west in Crother's Woods, I spotted Am. Robin, Junco, Song and Fox Sparrows. In the Don River there were 7 Wood Ducks - they have been there all month, one Hooded Merganser and a few Mallards.
When I returned to the meadow near the plant, there was a fresh flock of 8 Eastern Bluebirds hawking from the chain linked fence. There were many grasshoppers on the walking paths. I also saw an American Kestrel harassing a soaring adult Red-tailed Hawk. When I returned to my parking lot there was a Cooper's Hawk plucking a still struggling Rock Pigeon. Shades of the journeys of E.T. Seaton. Directions: The North Toronto Treatment plan is in the Don Valley just west of the Leaside Bridge - access off Millwood Rd Crother's Woods is just West of the water treatment plant Eleanor Beagan OFO Vice President & Membership Secretary [EMAIL PROTECTED] www.ofo.ca [EMAIL PROTECTED] _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
