Migration locally seems to have become much more obvious this week. There are always Canada Geese in the air, every tree has a few Yellow-rumped warblers flitting about, and the shrubbery is alive with kinglets and White-throated Sparrows.
The only unusual ducks were 2 Ruddy and 2 Ring-necked in the Amherstview lagoons last Sunday. There was also a Snow Goose on the penitentiary property on Monday. Warbler movement is still occurring north of the city; Nashville, N. Parula, Chestnut-sided, Magnolia, Black-throated Green, Blackpoll, and Am. Redstart were reported from a variety of locations. Mixed in with these were several Blue-headed Vireo, a Rose-breasted Grosbeak at Camden East and a N. Oriole at Elginburg. To add to the sparrow list there was another Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrow on Amherst last Friday and an E. Towhee at Elginburg on Wednesday. Shorebirds went largely unmentioned this week; 2 Am. Golden Plover on Amherst and 2 Pectoral Sandpipers at the lagoons last Friday, and a single Greater Yellowlegs at the lagoons on Sunday. There was an excellent flight over the city last night, with hundreds of Gray-cheeked and Hermit Thrushes and thousands of Swainson's tallied amongst the myriad unidentifiable " squeaks and peeps".
