Spent an hour or so at the sewage lagoon and for people considering going this weekend there were very few shorebirds. Although the second pond was abit low I only found 10 Least Sandpipers there and a few Yellowlegs. The only other shorebirds I saw was 1 Solitary & 1 Spotted Sandpiper and about 12 Lesser Yellowlegs in total. Among the 75+ Bonaparte Gulls there was 1 juvenile bird.
I spoke with a man who worked there and he said they will not be lowering the water levels until Sept. 15th, they do 1 pond at a time and it takes 5-7 days to lower. Dave Worthington [EMAIL PROTECTED] Directions as per Ron Fleming: These lagoons are just north of Newmarket in the town of Holland Landing, about 30 minutes north of Toronto. Take Yonge St. north through town, then turn east on Cedar St. and drive the short distance to its end. For those considering a visit, please note the following developments, however: there is now a great deal of poison ivy around the unofficial access path on the north side and there is a new No Trespassing sign on the main gate. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
