The male prothonotary warbler was confirmed this morning at 9:00 am and
observed for about 15 minutes feeding in some small trees between 10-20 feet
off the ground from a distance of about 15 feet. The bird was seen by myself
and another birder on the west side of Mimico Creek (across the bridge at
the Martingrove Parking lot) and about 300 yards north on the path that runs
parallel and tight to the creek. It was travelling with some yellow-rumped
and bay-breasted warblers.
Neither the Kentucky warbler or the Summer Tanager were relocated.
The West Deane/Ravenscrest/Hampshire Heights/Echo Valley park system
comprises the Mimico Creek Ravine and runs between Kipling/Burnhamthorpe
streets in the south through to Eglinton Avenue & Hwy. 427 in the north.
Directions from downtown Toronto: Gardiner Expressway West, north on Hwy
427, Rathburn Road offramp EAST (not west per my earlier directions) to
Martingrove Road, left (north) on Martingrove to West Dean Park parking lot
on left (west) side of road.
