Greetings all,
This afternoon I was surprised to see a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker in
the trees by "The Birdhouse", a bird feeding and nature store in the
village of Wooler, north of Trenton. According to the owner, it
showed up about a week ago and sometimes feeds on a birch suet log
hanging from a crabapple by the front door. When I saw it, it was in
a large deciduous tree beside a huge Norway Spruce in the yard on the
south side of the store, then flew east toward a wooded creek bed.
This is still quite a rare winter bird in these parts. There was
also a White-throated Sparrow among the more common feeder patrons.

Directions: To get to Wooler, take the Wooler Road exit from Hwy 401
(between Trenton and Brighton), then drive north for about 5 minutes
until you get to Wooler. The Bird House is on the right side beside
a variety store, shortly after crossing a creek.
