Enthusiastic visitors inc: Randy Holland and Dave Pilmer from Leamington; Bob Sanford of Kingsville;Steve Kopacz of Fraser, MI; and Sharon Jorgenson and Kay Janssens from London, ON. Weather: A BLUSTERY day(where was Winnie the Pooh?). Winds were from the NE/ENE all day, with partial clouds, until around 1:00pm, when it became extremely cloudy, cold, and dark. The tidal stream of raptors also stopped dead! That dissipated at 3pm, and the sun shone brightly, but the birds did not return.--a strange day, indeed. Raptor Observations: A constant stream of birds, with huge kettles of vultures moving all day, interspersed with buteos in groups of 3-10, and occasional accips. 5 GE's were a treat. One lone adult BW was quite surprising. Most birds were at a good height for great viewing, some "crippling". The constant looks at RS were somewhat reminiscent of the "good ol days"--hope this beautiful hawk is making a comeback. They certainly generated their fair share of oohs and ahs. Non-raptor Observations: Strong winds kept most passerines out of the air. A few small flocks of grackles went by, approx 30 pine siskins and some bluejays braved the winds and the raptor gauntlet. A small group of killdeer noisily flew by. Thousands of crows were on the move as well. Predictions: If predicted rains abate quickly, the ensuing flight should be good as a lot of birds had to have been moving north of us as well, and they "shut down" at 2 pm EST ======================================================================== Report submitted by Michael Fitzpatrick ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) Holiday Beach Migration Observatory information may be found at: http://hbmo.org/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
