Visitors:
Lots of visitors to the tower today. Four couples from the Sarnia/Corunna
area of Ontario - Bob & Nancy Haig, Gord & Nete Dawson, George & Sheila
White and Carol & Gerry Stewart (thanks for the lunch gang), as well as
John & Florence Hawarden of Waterford MI and Diane & Bill Rado of Ann Arbor
MI and several others who did not sign in from Michigan and Essex County.
Weather:
Beautiful clear sunny day with strong WSW or W winds up to 38 km/hr and
temperature ranging from 13 to 20 C.
Raptor Observations:
A nice mix of species during the day, but no dominate migration. The
highlight was 2 Peregrine that both flew very close to the tower giving all
good looks.
Non-raptor Observations:
It was tough going for passerines today. Many just gave up and flew back
east into the woods. Singles of Red-bellied Woodpecker, Downy Woodpecker,
Northern Flicker and Gray Catbird did make it over the tower, as did
several large "murders" of American Crow and flocks of Blue Jay.
The sky was full of Turkey Vultures on the drive home from Holiday Beach
to Leamington.
Predictions:
Same as today, but with winds out of the SSW that might slow down
migration.
