Weather: The day started out very promising with Northerly winds 4 to 7 mph the first few hour. Sunny with just a few clouds, temperature of 13.0 C. As the day wore on, the winds shifted until settling at Southerly...at that point the "hawk switch" went off. A beautiful day for the hawk watchers to be outside, but not many hawks flying this afternoon. The day remained sunny, minimal cloud cover and temps reached 17.2 C. Raptor Observations: One residual kettle of Broad Wing Hawks moved thru very high and Northeast of the count sitein the 10:00 hour. Other than these birds, Sharp Shinned Hawks prevailed today. Non-raptor Observations: Blue Jays started migrating today...the first few hours moved about 1000 birds thru. Once the day warmed, the Monarchs were everywhere...low and high. At least 30 to 40 seen each hour after 11am. Swallows continued today with Purple Martins, Barn and Tree varieties. Gold Finch were numerous throughout most of the day. 2 Tundra Swans were spotted going down the shore line, and then circle out over the marsh...early for this pair. A Caspian Tern was noted. At least 12 Ruby Throated Hummers were spotted from the tower migrating. The Sora was again calling in the Marsh, and was briefly spotted near the willow tree north of the tower. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Cindy Isenhoff ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) Holiday Beach Migration Observatory information may be found at: http://hbmo.org/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
