Official Counter: Colin Horstead, Dave Brown

Observers: Dave Verkley, Derek Lyon, Don Taylor, Jennifer Lyon,
Ronnie Goodhand, Shay Redmond, Su Ross-Redmond,
                  Wayne Parnall

Visitors:
Lots of visitors today along with many of those that've returned this
season to help volunteer. Thanks to Colin Horstead, Jen and Derek Lyon, Su
and Shay Remond, Don Taylor, Ronnie Goodhand, Wayne Parnell, Mary Carnahan,
Keith Sealy and Dave Verkley for helping with today's count. Visitors today
included Denzil and Shirley D'Mello (London), the Klassen family, Bob and
Elizabeth Sontrop (London), Aaron Ince (Brantford), Dean Stack (St.
Thomas).

Weather:
A lot of haze for the majority of the day making spotting the birds
difficult. Still fairly warm with a high of 24C. Eventually, the air
cleared and higher cloud moved in to provide a decent background for
spotting the raptors. Winds were light from the N for the first half of the
day then switching to S and SW for the rest of the afternoon.

Raptor Observations:
A total of 574 birds tallied for the day...an excellent flight for early
September. The majority on the day were Sharpies (267) and Kestrels
(191)...while the Northern Harriers (74) put in a good showing as well.
Broadwings (3) were in short supply but highlights included the Bald Eagles
that cruised past a mere 50 or 60 feet up from the Cliff edge...several
Merlins (including one that almost nailed a Kestrel) and another early
Peregrine.

Non-raptor Observations:
Lost of warblers and vireos around the hawkwatch today along with
Red-bellied Woodpecker, Red-breasted Nuthatch and Ruby-throated Hummingbird
(lots). Also a large number of Monarchs and dragonflies in the air today.

Predictions:
Prediction is for a wet day clearing later in the afternoon. Not expecting
much of a flight.
