At 3:15 yesterday (Saturday January 20th 2007) at Lake Drive just west of
Woodbine Ave North (north of Keswick) Paul and Lorena Campbell spotted 4 Bald
Eagles flying over the open water and sitting on the ice between the mainland
and Snake Island. There were 2 immature and 2 mature birds; they were active,
regularly putting up the gulls and waterfowl.

Keswick and the southeastern shore of Lake Simcoe are accessible by taking
Hwy. 404 north from Toronto then, when it ends, jogging east to Woodbine Avenue
and taking it north to the lake. Lake Drive runs east and west along the
shoreline.

Hey Everyone,

I am posting a little late but I hope I will be forgiven. Yesterday =20
Jenn Sinasac, Scott Taylor and I birded Amherst Island and it was =20
quite a day!

In the Owl Woods were plenty of LONG-EARED OWLS(10+ but tough to =20
count), one SAW-WHET OWL(at the back north-eastern??? end of the =20
pines) and plenty of feeder birds. 4 SNOWY OWLS were present on the =20
KFN property.

The concessions on the west end of the island were busy as well. 10 =20
EASTERN MEADOWLARKS were seen mixed with starlings at the corner of =20
3rd Concession and Stella Rd. 1 LAPLAND LONGSPUR and 3 HORNED LARKS =20
were founds in various small flocks SNOW BUNTINGS along 1st =20
Concession. Plenty of RED-TAILED and ROUGH-LEGGED(including 1 dark =20
morph) hawks were seen as well as many harriers and 1 AMERICAN =20
KESTREL. Also seen were 1 COMMON RAVEN and 1 probable 1st year BALD =20
EAGLE(1st Concession).

We checked Dupont twice yet NO Eurasian Widgeon. Pleanty of Gadwall, =20
American Widgeon, Redheads, Mergansers, etc and 2 TUNDRA SWANS.

Also seen on Amherst were 1 NORTHERN SHRIKE and 2 SHORT-EARED OWLS. =20
These were seen by Richard and Ryan Tofflemire and Graham Nancekivell.

Cheers,

Jon Pleizier
Guelph
