This morning (11:15 am), I saw 7 Gray Partridge at Brantford Airport.
They were located at the base of an evergreen tree, one of a row of
evergreens between two hangers east of Airport Rd. inside the airport
property. They were under the most easterly evergreen.
To reach Brantford Airport, drive south on Rest Acres RD. (Highway No.
   24) from Highway No. 403 (west of Brantford). Turn left (east) on
Colborne St.(Highway No. 53). Turn left on Airport Rd. to the T at
York Rd. Turn right and drive a short way and the row of evergreens is
   on the left.

At 5:10pm today we saw 2 SHORT-EARED OWLS. We were in the area shortly before
this time with no activity, so it seems like after 5pm is the ideal hunting
time. The same fields also have sigificant numbers of NORTHERN HARRIERS. Only
1 was seen today, but a visit to this area last week produced around 10.

Directions: From exit 56 on Highway 402, go North on Kerwood Road (#6). Turn
right (East) on Egremont Drive. Turn left (North) on Seed Road. The first
building on the left side of the road is a barn. The owls were seen just to
the North of this barn. If you were to keep driving to the next intersection
(Cuddy Drive and Seed Road), the Southwest corner is a traditional spot for
many Short-eared Owls in past years.

Happy New Year,=20

I was treated to a the sight of a mature bald eagle cruising about =
100m above the surf along the south shore of Lake Simcoe today at noon. =
I was driving along Hedge Road where it crosses the Black River at the =
time. The lake is still wide open. However, there is a slight build-up =
of broken ice forming along the shoreline. The lake was loaded with =
common ducks.=20

This was my second eagle sighting in as many weeks in the area. We =
managed to see (and photograph) a pair of eagles over Beaverton during =
the Christmas Bird Count on Dec. 30th.

Jackson's Point is an hour north of Toronto. Hwy 48 north to Park Rd =
turn left or north (pass Sibbald Provincial Park). Turn left at the stop =
sign and you are now on Hedge Rd. Start scanning the skies as you will =
be driving along the shore westward toward the Black River and the big =
blue bridge that crosses it.

Hello Ontbirders
Today, along the Ottawa River I recorded 14 Bald Eagles between
Shirley's Bay and the Champlain Bridge. This " Cleanup Crew" were eating a
variety birds including a few gulls and ducks. The activity coincided with
the recent freeze up of the Ottawa River. This is the latest date, in past
38 years, that the river has remained opened this late. There was still a
few first winter Ring-billed Gulls hanging around but the 180 adults I
observed last weekend on January 13th were gone.
In Ottawa, near Billing Bridge at Bank Street/ Rideau River, 1000+
Mallard, 40 Am.Black Duck, 2 Wood Duck, 148 Canada Geese and 1 male Hooded
Merganser were present.
A Chipping Sparrow was observed at a feeder in the Rockcliffe Park area
the past few days and the White-crowned Sparrow was still present today, at
the Hilda Road feeders. If you require additional information, please email
me privately.
                                            good birding
