Hello everyone,
This morning in the Bird Studies Canada headquarters, in Port Rowan, there was
a bustle of activity around 0930 when well over 100 Sandhill Cranes picked up
from the surrounding fields are marshes, and circled the property. Among them
was a Great Egret! The egret was again observed around 1630 flying west, low
over Big Creek marsh. Presumably this same egret was also seen from near the
causeway last Friday!
A great January bird!!!

From Highway 401 or Highway 3, come south
on Highway 59 to the north shore of Lake Erie. BSC's National Headquarters
is situated at 115 Front St. in Port Rowan. From Highway 59 south,
turn east on Regional Rd 42 (Front St) and drive 400 metres to our
building on the south side of the road. LPBO's Old Cut Field Station
is on Old Cut Blvd. on Long Point, just
two streets before Highway 59 ends at Long Point Provincial Park. We are
the 6th building
on the right as you head north on Old Cut Blvd. from Highway 59. There is
a small sign on
the front lawn. You can park across the road in the Ministry of Natural
Resources boat
launch parking lot. We're open to the public during spring and fall
migration (from April
to mid June and early August to mid November, respectively).

Notes: The snow goose was a shocker even though it is warm this year. I saw
it just along the Thames heading along the n. side w Cago and Mallards as well
as strange domestic mallards. I stopped and slowly worked my way out into the
flock trying to lure them in with little pieces of sticks thrown like food, got
wn 10 ft! SWEET! heard soft sound of Snow Goose!

the Ovenbird was found again this morning 01-13-07 at 12:15 at the Vanier
College at York University. It was found by the hardest working winter
lister I have ever met Leon Shlickter, who had already been there 4 hours,
( last name spelt rough iam sheer ) and watched for 15 minutes by Leon,
Harry Kerr , Bev and my self .
It was seen on the north side of Vanier College in an area that they are
trimming evergreen's, look for the BIG green recycling bin and go to your
left along the building and staff and service parking . Follow the
directions already posted below for the general location.
