Birders:

After a month of waiting impatiently in the Sault I got my first opportunity
to try for the Razorbill today. Needless to say I watched the sunrise from
the parkette in NOTL and was not disappointed. Shortly after it was light
enough to see (around 0800) I spotted the Razorbill drifting along the "rip
line"
as described in numerous previous posts. It spent 20-30 minutes drifting
back and forth leisurely from the US side to the Canadian side and back again.
At about 0830 it started feeding actively and when I left at 0900 it was still
present.

This was especially gratyfying as this was my third alcid on the Great Lakes
in as many months. The Black Guillemot on the Spanish River on Nov.19 was
number two and a stunning Ancient Murrelet at the mouth of the Tahquemenon
River
on Whitefish Bay on Oct.29th was number one. I have a feeling this streak
may be a bit difficult to sustain but a Dovekie in January wouldn't be
impossible.

For those wishing to break away from the rush of Christmas Eve, Dave Don
just phoned to say he relocated the Orange-crowned Warbler along the railway
line just north of the tracks on Kerr Street in Oakville. It was
associating with a group of chickadees a bit closer than when I located it
last week. It was seen on the north side west of Kerr Street and east of
the old shack further down the tracks. Walk west from Kerr Street along the
path that parallels the tracks.

Directions:

Take QEW to Dorval/Kerr Street exit. Kerr Street is the next major road
east of Dorval and is not marked going eastbound on the QEW. It is accessed
via the North Service Road or you can access Kerr Street off of Lakeshore.
I parked at a small turnaround located just north of the railway tracks but
this could be private property. Alternatively, you could use the LA
Weightloss parking located just south of the tracks.

Happy Christmas Eve!
