Hey All,
For any birders out here in Sault Ste Marie there was a nice pure
flock of Approx 15 Bohemian Waxwings seen on the Sault College

the Ray Lawson Hall Residence located directly across from the
college.

I have just (3:30 PM) seen two flying adult peregrine falcons from my
office on the north side of the 15th floor of the RH Coats building in
Tunney's Pasture, Ottawa. They appeared to fly up to the top of the
building to perch.
Directions: The RH Coats building is at the corner of Scott St and
Holland Ave in Ottawa.

Presqu'ile Birding Report for Week Ending November 9, 2006.

Whether visiting Presqu'ile Provincial Park specifically for birding or
incidentally as a birding add-on to a visit to the "Christmas at
Presqu'ile" festivities, visiting birders found some exciting birds last
weekend. Perhaps the coming weekend will provide more such opportunities.
For the first time this fall, there have been a few Red-throated Loons
far out in Popham Bay, but the majority of the loons that seem to be
everywhere these days are Common Loons, hundreds of them. Three
Red-necked Grebes were off the calf pasture on November 6. Largely
because of the fog, yesterday was the first day in over seven months on
which no Double-crested Cormorants were seen. On average, three a day
have been present for the past week. Single Great Blue Herons were seen
on three of the past seven days. This week has seen little change in
the waterfowl at Presqu'ile from a week ago, but a male Harlequin Duck
on November 5 was a good find. Unfortunately it has not been
relocated. A flock of up to 25 Black Scoters has been in Popham Bay. A
small group of Ruddy Ducks was off Salt Point on November 6.
A Merlin has been frequenting Owen Point and Gull Peninsula almost every
day. In the marsh one observer counted 92 American Coots. Five species
of shorebirds were recorded in the past week, the highlight being two
transient Purple Sandpipers that moved on with their accompanying flock
of Dunlins and have not been seen since. A Sanderling and a Pectoral
Sandpiper were still present on November 6. A Black-legged Kittiwake at
Owen Point on November 9 could not be found two hours later but may
still be in the area.
A Northern Shrike was seen twice recently at the calf pasture. A small
flock of Eastern Bluebirds was near beach 1 on November 5, and another
of that species was at the lighthouse on November 9. A Hermit Thrush
was still present on November 4. Surprisingly, four species of warblers
were in the Park on the weekend, two of which were discovered by
visiting birders and three of which are believed to be the first
November records for those species. A Nashville Warbler, first found
near the lighthouse on November 4, reappeared at 186 Bayshore Road on
the following day. A Cape May Warbler was near the lighthouse on
November 6, and an American Redstart was near the Park store on November
5. Two Chipping Sparrows were found on November 6 and a White-throated
Sparrow on November 3. A Red-winged Blackbird and a Common Grackle are
showing signs of settling in for the winter at the feeders around 85
Bayshore Road, although other blackbirds are still on the move.
To reach Presqu'ile Provincial Park, follow the signs from Brighton.
Locations within the Park are shown on a map at the back of a tabloid
that is available at the Park gate. It should be noted that, because
duck hunting is given priority on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and
Saturdays, Owen Point, Gull Peninsula, High Bluff Island, and part of
the calf pasture are not available for bird-watching on those days.
