Hi all,
I am posting this for Bruce Di Labio, who is birding Presqu'ile with
a group.
At dusk on Sunday, 5 Nov. he found a male Harlequin Duck feeding with
goldeneyes to the north of Gull Island. It was feeding along a
submerged gravel ridge that runs parallel to the north shore of Gull,
3-400 m offshore, and which creates a white-water effect. If it is
not shot as part of the Controlled Waterfowl Hunt, it may remain
here. He also saw 2 Purple Sandpipers on Sebastopol Pt. - the small
island that is off the NW corner of Gull Is.
Today, Mon 6 Nov he saw 7 Red-throated Loons off Beach 1 plus over
300 Com Loons about - all are associated with big fish schools
(Rainbow Smelt?) that appear off the beach each fall.
Finally, Diane Whitman and I saw a Sandhill Crane at dusk on Sat. 4
Nov. It was about 2 km east of the Brighton Sewage lagoon and was
flying west toward the Gosport or Presqu'ile marsh.
Cheers,
Doug McRae
Directions: Presqu'ile is south of the town of Brighton, and is well
signed from Hwy 401 or 2.

This morning the Yellow-throated Warbler was again at the
Pier by Shell Park. I watched it for a good 45 minutes and
it was visable for nearly the whole time. It was feding
actively on insects and constantly chipping at the tops of
the pine trees directly behind the construction site.
The Harlequin Duck Reported at Bronte Bluffs Park was also
there this morning it was feeding just off shore with a
group of Buffleheads.

Burlington
Directions: Yellow-throated Warbler, exit the QEW at
Burloak Rd. and head south until Burloak splits into Great
Lakes Blvd. Take Great Lakes until it reaches the Lakeshore
The Park is on theother side of lakeshore at this point.
It was feeding in the tall pines behind the contruction
site.
Harlequin: Follow Lakeshore east from the the warbler
(little over a km), take the first right after Mississaga
St. Follow up the hill and the parking lot is on your left
hand side. The bird was feeding just off the bluffs very
close to shore.
