Nancy and I went up to the Humber College Arboretum from 2 - 4 p,m. yesterday
to collect some seeds for a science presentation. At the entrance to the
Arboretum we heard a large number of birds calling and feeding on the lawn, in
the formal gardens and woods. Highlights were two female Purple Finches high in
the trees, a Eastern Phoebe adjacent to one of the many ponds, a Red-bellied
Woodpecker, and four Fox Sparrows feeding in the leaves in the woods adjacent
to the manicured area. We also flushed an American Woodcock on the floodplain
next to the Humber River. There numerous Northern Juncos, White-throated
Sparrows, American Robins, Hermit Thrushes, and American Goldfinches. We also
had a fly over Northern Flicker.

  Regards,

Directions to Humber College Arboretum: Take highway 27 north from the 401.
Turn left on to Humber College Blvd. Keep left and take the first left into the

fenced off. You can park in the main parking lot adjacent to the arboretum
