Yesterday at about 4:30 p.m. a Great Gray Owl was observed perhaps 8
feet from the ground in the edge of the treed lot just west of Morning
Glory Public School. Despite heavy traffic on Highway 48, it surveyed
the area, did a bit of grooming, and then flew closer to the road to
land on a fence post located at what must be the edge of the road
allowance. As it turned its head its yellow eyes were very visible --
as they hadn't been last Wednesday when (I presume) the same owl was
observed in the same area.
Virginia is south of Lake Simcoe, on Highway 48, a busy 2-lane road that
at that point runs east and west. It's perhaps an hour from downtown
Toronto.. The owl was east of Duclos Point Road, which is east of the
village of Virginia.
