Hi All,

A quick trip up to the north end of Bathurst Street on Saturday
afternoon resulted in a few dabbling ducks (300+ Northern Pintail & 200+
Green-winged Teal) as well as 5 Tundra Swans and a Vesper Sparrow
(seemed early, so thought I should mention it). Also, several raptors
were seen including 2 Turkey Vulture, 2 Northern Harriers and 4
Red-tailed Hawks. These birds were all along Hochreiter Road, which
runs west off Bathurst, north & east of Bradford.

The standout for me though, was on the way home, at about 3pm at the
very busy corner of Hwy 7 & Leslie Street in south Richmond Hill, a very
dark Red-tailed Hawk. The bird was sitting in the lone small tree in
the south-east quadrant of the intersection. Comparing to Sibley's
Guide, the bird was definitely an "Intermediate" Western morph of the
Red-tailed Hawk, with a beautiful dark brown (almost black) body and a
nice bright rufous tail.

Good birding,
Frank Pinilla

DIRECTIONS:

The north end of Bathurst, which dead-ends at the Holland River, is
found in eastern Bradford (north of Newmarket) where Bathurst intersects
with Yonge Street (Yonge turns west here through Bradford), go north on
Bathurst from this intersection, about 2km up, Hochreiter Road runs west
off Bathurst and dead-ends in a very wet area, where the ducks/swans
were as well as many calling frogs.
