Just returned from the Bramalea City Centre by way of the Park system from Clark Ave to Avondale Blvd. While travelling through Aloma park I heard the distinct "drink-your-teeeeeee" and then spotted the male Towhee near the footbridge(behind Aloma Public School), crossing the storm water ditch that runs the length of the park. I was able to approach within about 5m before he took wing and flew off North along the water course. He didn't fly far, but it was raining pretty good at that time so I didn't follow.
This is the first Towhee of the season for me and the first towhee in this part of Brampton that I am aware of in about 6 years. Aloma Park is that part of the park system between Algonquin Rd and Avondale Blvd. Dir: From East or West on Steeles Ave to Brampton (Bramalea), turn North on Bramalea Rd. Turn left (West) at second stoplight (Avondale Blvd)and go 200 m to the Avondale shopping Mall. Park on the West side of the lot and follow the path North into the park. >From 401 East or West exit at the 410 North into Brampton and exit at Steeles Ave. Turn right on Steeles and go to Bramalea Rd then as above. >From 407 Westbound exit at Bramalea Rd, turn right (N), 1st light will be Steeles and then as above; >From 407 Eastbound exit at Dixie Rd, turn left (N) on Dixie to Steeles Ave., right (E) on Steeles to Bramalea Rd then as above.
