There were at least a dozen Horned Grebes this morning at Col Sam Smith Park, in the marina and the surrounding bays. 3 or 4 are in breeding plummage with the rest still changing from winter plummage.
Other birds seens, lots of Robins, Red-winged Blackbirds, Bufflehead & Mallard ducks, a few Killdeer, Common Golden-eye, Common Merganser, Gadwell, Long-tailed Ducks, and 1 Mockingbird. At Humber Bay East, there's still an American Coot by the walkways. Directions to Col Sam Smith in Toronto: Exit Kipling Ave from the QEW and just go straight south. There were 2 adult plumaged birds present this afternoon in the "old burn " site. good birding Bruce Directions: Red-headed Wdpk: From Ottawa travel west bound on Hwy. 417 to the March Rd./Eagleson Road and exit right onto March Rd. Follow to Dunrobin Road and turn right continuing northwest through Woodlawn. At the hill turn right onto Constance Bay Rd following it for approx. 1.5 km. Turn left on Allbirch Road and drive 1.3 km to the " T " intersection. Turn left on Bishop Davis Drive and then right on Bayview Drive. Follow Bayview Drive to Ritchie St. Turn right and go a short distance to Whistler Rd and park.. The road is still closed but you can walk the short distance, .3 km, to the trail on the left.
