Hello Birders.
The annual spectacle of TUNDRA SWAN
migration is in full swing in the flooded fields just inland from the
Pinery Provincial Park and the Lambton Heritage Museum. Both are
situated on Highway 21 to the south of Grand Bend.
The usual viewing site down Greenway Rd. has only a few swans
because there was no corn planted there last year. However just where
the Greenway Rd, bends to the left there is a dirt road called River
Rd. there are flooded fields down there which are holding about 10,000 swans.
Also if instead of turning off you continue on Greenway Rd. to
where it crosses the Ausable River, there are about 1,000 swans
closer to the road today.
During the week there have been about 15,000 swans but the frost
and receding floods have reduced the total here.
Directions-- From London head for Grand Bend and follow Hwy.21 to
the Museum.
From Wallaceburg head for Petrolia and keep
straight on through Reeces Corners and over the 402 until the
Lakeshore Rd.is reached. Turn Right up the lake and re-join 21
by-passing Forest.
There are very few geese and ducks around yet in this area
because they are still in the cold south. The swans however came in
from the east coast during a warm spell.
Good Birding.
Alf.
