The two immature Swainson's Hawks first report by Paul Pratt on Saturday, September 17th were still at the same location just outside Point Pelee National Park at the intersection of Mersea D and Road 19 between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. today, Sunday, September 18th. There is a wide ditch running east from this intersection and both birds were along the farm lane running along the north side of the ditch. They were as close as 50 metres to Road 19 and as far away as 500 metres near a yellow piece of farm equipment, and sometimes sitting in the field itself to the north. During the hour both birds hopped out in to the field to catch grasshoppers or took short flights to catch grasshoppers, but then always came back to sit on the road and eat them.
Thanks to all who posted or contacted me about these birds, since inevitably I was out of town again when they were first reported.. Todd Pepper Leamington, ON [EMAIL PROTECTED]
