Hello all,

Returning home from the OFO conference yesterday (Sept. 13) We dropped in to he Port Stanley S.L.s. There, we were happy to see that the two Red-necked Phalaropes were still around. The wind was steady from the SW, so it held them, and their food choices, close to the shore that is adjacent to the road. The vegetation is growing high at the edge of the lagoons making it hard to see them at times, especially on south-west winds. They were feeding and in the company of lots of Bonaparte's Gulls at the time. Also present in the lagoons were several duck species, Northern Shovelers, American Widgeons, Wood Ducks, Blue-winged Teals, Green-winged Teals, Northern Pintails and Mallards.

Directions: Port Stanley is on the north shore of lake Erie, south of St. Thomas. If heading from St Thomas, take #4 hwy, south, which goes all the way into Port Stanley. It may also be referred to as Sunset Road or East Road, depending what section you are on. As this #4 is heading into Port Stanley, you will be coming down a hill section of this road. At the bottom of this hill watch for Warren Road at a park/play area on your right. Take that Warren Road across the Kettle Creek and up to an intersection with Carlow Road. Continue straight at that intersection and Warren Road will be called Lake Line. Continue up this road and watch for the first road on your right. This will be Scotch Line. Turn right on Scotch Line and it will lead to the lagoons. There will be two viewing stations that were built for the purpose of viewing the birds in the lagoons. What a fabulous town Port Stanley is! Go to the second viewing station, as it covers lagoons 3 & 4. The Phalaropes were in lagoon #3.

Best of luck!
