OFNC BIRD STATUS LINE - MON SEP 12 2005 AT 9:30 PM

This is Chris Lewis reporting.

An immature FRANKLIN'S GULL discovered on Sept. 10th on the Ottawa
River at Bate Island was definitely the highlight in an otherwise
very quite week. This gull was still present on the southwest side
of Bate Island at 3:15 pm today, the 12th. The entrance to Bate
Island is approx. 1/2 way across the Champlain Bridge between
Ontario and Quebec.

Britannia Bay, from the north end of Scrivens St. west through
Andrew Haydon Park, continues to host large numbers of Blue-winged
Teal among the Canada Geese and common duck species, and on the
11th there were 5 Black-bellied Plovers, 6 Semipalmated Plovers,
12 Lesser Yellowlegs, and 1 juvenile Sanderling in this general
area. At Shirley's Bay on the 10th there was 1 Stilt Sandpiper
and 1 Baird's Sandpiper. A strong movement of American Pipits was
also noted along the Ottawa River on the weekend.

Approx. 15 Rusty Blackbirds - another sign of the season to come -
were seen at Mud Lake in the Britannia Conservation Area on the
10th, and on the evening of the 9th a Barred Owl was found at
Meech Lake in Gatineau Park.

Thank you - Good Birding!
