On Saturday September 10th, at about 12 noon while hiking on crown land on
the western edge of Algonquin Prov. Park I saw a first year Bald Eagle. It
was soaring high above Dunstan and Snowshoe Lakes which are about 5 kms
outside the park and 6kms from the Rain Lake access point (about 1 km south
of the Rain Lake access road). Lower down the same thermal was a single
Turkey Vulture. As I watched, the majestic bird rose up and up until it was
lost in the blue. Dunstan Lake sits at about 1440 feet at the top of the
Cripple Creek-Big East River watershed.
