Hello Ontbirders:

Despite a very humid and rainy Sunday morning a trip to the Almonte Sewage Lagoons was worthwhile for shorebirds including:
30 Short-billed Dowitchers
7 Solitary Sandpipers
3 Wilson's Snipe
3 Semipalmated Plover
2 Pectoral Sandpipers
Assorted numbers of Greater Yellowlegs, Lesser Yellowlegs, Killdeer, Least Sandpipers, Semipalmated Sandpipers, and Spotted Sandpiper

An adult male Common Goldeneye was on the Mississippi River, beside the dam, right inside the village of Almonte.

At the Wet area along Moodie Drive, south of Trail Road there was an adult Bonaparte's Gull. Ducks here included American Wigeon, Ring-necked and Ruddy Duck.

DIRECTIONS (courtesy of Neily World website: http://ca.geocities.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/birding.htm )
Almonte is west of Ottawa. For the sewage lagoons:
From Highway 417 (The Queensway) take exit 155 (March Road or Regional Road 49). Turn left or southwest onto March Road and follow it for 16.0 km through Almonte to the gates on the right or northwest for the Almonte Sewage Lagoons

For the Wet Area on Moodie Drive:
From Highway 416 take exit 66 (Fallowfield Road). If southbound, a 0.4 km offramp dumps onto Fallowfield, where you will turn right or west. If northbound, the 0.4 km offramp brings you to Fallowfield, where you will turn left or west onto it and in 0.5 km join the southbound offramp traffic. Both groups will now follow Fallowfield Road west for an additional 0.4 km to reach Moodie Drive. Turn left or southeast onto Moodie Drive and go 5.3 km, passing Cambrian Road to reach the Burnside Pits (second gate on the left). Park along the side of the road without blocking the access.

Cheers,
