On Wednesday, July 13th, 2005, this is the HNC Birding Report:

DICKCISSEL

Pied-billed Grebe
Hooded Merganser
Peregrine Falcon
Least Sandpiper
Common Nighthawk
Cedar Waxwing
Hooded Warbler

A slow week in the Hamilton area, too stinking hot for anything to move
around!

The DICKCISSEL remains in Bronte Park North, the male was seen July 9th.

In the Desjardins Canal this week were a Pied-billed Grebe and three Hooded
Mergansers.

One brave soldier went out in the heat and stumbled across a Hooded Warbler
on the Northshore trails at the Royal Botanical Gardens.

Nothing new to report from the Grimsby Sewage Lagoons this week except a
migrant Least Sandpiper.

A lovely sound over the yard on Sunday was that of a Common Nighthawk, not
often heard in the Burlington Area. My Cedar Waxwings successfully fledged
last Thursday night and took up residence at the neighbours.

The three remaining Peregrine Falcons seem to be living well in downtown
Hamilton. I have received calls on the hotline from downtowners who are
viewing the birds from homes and offices in the area.

Keep reporting your sightings, this heat will bring the water levels down
and perhaps create some good shorebird habitat. They are on their way back!
Keep cool!

Good birding,
Cheryl Edgecombe
