Today I found 5 species of shorebirds at the Alfred Sewage Lagoons.
These included the usual 3 breeders and the following 2 migrants: 18 Lesser
Yellowlegs and one Least Sandpiper.
There were also 4 Common Moorhen and a female Redhead with 9 newly hatched
young.
DIRECTIONS: From the town of Alfred go east on Highway 17, then turn
south on Peat Moss Road and drive for 2 km. The lagoons are on your left
(east side of road). Contact Richard Villeneuve, Township of Alfred and
Plantagenet at (613) 679-2292 for the required permit to enter the lagoons.
