At 3:15 pm John Nishikawa and I had the Laughing Gull on Halls Road (as per
Otto Peter's earlier message - Thanks!).

We watched the bird for 5 minutes until it was last seen flying to the east.

Thanks,

Subject: [Ontbirds]Laughing gull Halls Road Whitby

The adult breeding plumaged Laughing Gull was seen on the west side of Halls Rd
in Whitby at noon today (Sunday) in the plowed field about 0.3 kilometers south
of Victoria street in among about 10 RBGUs. Can be easily seen with binoculars
about 200m away from the road. Darker grey mantle, red bill and black head.

DIRECTIONS:
Halls Rd runs south off Bayly/Victoria Streets in Whitby (just east of
Lakeridge Road), exit off Hwy 401 at Brock STREET (Hwy 12) and head south to
Victoria St., turn right/west until you see Halls Rd on the left (after seeing
Lynde Shores CA).

Hi All,
I birded Pinery and Port Franks today and came across HOODED WARBLERS and an
ACADIAN FLYCATCHER in the County Forest at Port Franks. There are several
trails with public access (and ATV use!) and these birds can be heard/seen
easily from the trails. These birds have been known to breed here in the
past.
The Acadian Flycatcher was heard on the Tulip Tree Trail in the same area I
found one last year. A couple of male Hooded Warblers were seen farther
along the trail. I was there at a quiet time of day, so there could be more
warblers, as several pairs are known to breed here.

At Pinery Park, woodpeckers will put on a good show early in the morning on
Riverside Trail. Pairs of Pileated, Red-headed and Red-bellied were seen
this morning at the same time along the boardwalk portion. The Pileated had
young this year, and are quite vocal.
Various possible breeding warblers were seen in the park including
Black-and-White, Yellow-rumped, Chestnut-sided, Mourning and Magnolia.
Bluebirds seemed to be in large numbers throughout the park today.
No Piping Plover today, as there is far too much human disturbance and LOOSE
dogs on the beach.

Directions: Lambton County Forest at Port Franks is found along Port Franks
Road after turning off hwy 21. Watch for small blue signs indicating
trails. Tulip Tree Trail is behind the Community Centre--walk across field
to far corner on right. ACFL was heard after about a ten minute walk along
this trail to the left. Continue to Savannah Trail by making a left.
Follow this back to main road south of Com. Centre.
Pinery Park is south of Grand Bend on 21. Riverside Trail is found by
keeping right along the river once in the park.
