Hello All,

It wasn't quite Point Pelee but Britannia Bay in Ottawa was warbler central
this morning. While looking for the GREAT HORNED OWLS (all of which were seen)
at least 2 PINE WARBLERS were seen and heard in the tall pines near the owl
nest. There were both a male and a female. 2 male PALM WARBLERS were on the far
side of Mud Lake towards the swamp and boardwalk. Dozens of YELLOW-RUMPED
WARBLERS could be seen everywhere. I estimate there were at least 30 around the
southeastern part of Mud Lake.

Also on the south side of Mud Lakewere A RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, a PILEATED
WOODPECKER, and (surprisingly) a PEREGRINE FALCON. It was big and was probably
a female. It had a really pale breast and stayed around for quite a while.
RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS could also be heard- one male was seen.

I was at Mud Lake from about 9:30 until 1:00pm.

Happy birding,

Jon Pleizier

Directions to Mud Lake in Britannia.

Take the 417 to the Pinecrest Exit. Go NORTH on Pinecrest and turn RIGHT onto
Richmond Rd. Take the next LEFT after passing Carling Ave and follow this
street until you reach its end at the Brittania Yacht Club. Turn RIGHT and
drive until you see a path and a lake (Mud Lake) on your RIGHT. Take the path
around the Lake and have fun looking for whatever will be around. The GREAT
HORNED OWLS can be seen up in tall pine trees on the RIGHT side of the gravel
path. Usually there are people about in the afternoon who can direct you to
their whereabouts. Warblers are generally seen along the path and in the canopy
along the first part of the path that goes into a white pine stand(the location
of the abandoned Owl nest) and along the far side of the lake. Follow your ears
to the birds!!!
