In the midst of the burgeoning euphoria over the ivorybill story, we headed out after the rains this morning to hike around Sam Smith. There were lots of nice birds (no Willets seen): a PAIR of MOCKINGBIRDS, 20+ COMMON LOONS, 6+ Red NEcked GREBES, 2 HORNED GREBES (in almost complete breeding plumage), at least 10 RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS, CASPIAN and COMMON TERNS, 2 AMERICAN WIDGEON, 2 GADWALL, numerous BUFFLEHEAD, a RED-HEADED DUCK, several SAVANNAH SP., and of course numerous SONG SP., many TREE and BARN SW., 2 pair of Mute Swans on nests, plus others. We got out before the hailstorm too!
