I took a drive over to Amherst Island today and wandered around in the =
owl woods property. Back in the pines there were 5 gray-brown flappity =
brown owls who were masters at preventing me from getting a clear look =
at them. I talked to one gentleman who came in as I was walking out and =
he said he saw what he thought was a long eared owl...so it's probably =
the group of long eareds that people have been reporting earlier. I'm =
just mentioning this to let people know they're still there.

Also seen while there: ruby crowned kinglet, phoebe, flicker, junco, and =
woodcock besides the many other common birds at this time of year. At =
the ferry dock on the way over there were 2 tree swallows on a wire, and =
I saw a northern harrier in the fields on the way to and from the owl =
woods.

I understand that this is not a bird sighting and I hope that Mark Cranford
will see the wisdom of this posting.

The Ministry of Transportation- Ontario (MTO) has closed the highway
interchange at kilometer marker 48 (AKA the "Comber side road" or Queens
Highway 77) and Highway 401. This closure will be for at least the entire
summer as the overpass and ramps are being completely rebuilt. Highway 77 is
the main route into the town of Leamington and for many of those travelers
coming from the east also to Point Pelee National Park.

In order to avoid a 16 km detour, out of your way the following is
recommended:

Exit 401 at interchange 63 (Queens Line) and travel west approximately 5 km
on Queens line also known as Chatham-Kent Road 2 to the intersection of
Queen Street in the town of Tilbury. Turn left or south on Queen Street.
After passage through the town of Tilbury, Queen Street becomes Chatham-Kent
Road 1. From there one can travel due south to Essex county road 8 and turn
right , which will take you to Staples and back onto Highway 77 and further
on to Leamington, OR proceed further south to the beautiful village of
Wheatley. From Wheatley, one can travel on Essex county road 34 west
directly into Leamington or perhaps travel west on 34 to Essex county road
37 and turn left (south) and go from there. This path will take you past the
Hillman Marsh CA. Note that road 37 takes several jogs, watch for signs
.Where road 37 dead ends at Essex county road 20 take a 1000 foot jog to the
left (east) to Leamington Road 19. Again, head south on Road 19 to the
fourth crossroad (Leamington Road E) at which point you will be in the heart
of the "onion fields". From road 19 turn right onto Road E or west, not hard
since it is the only turn you can make. When you travel to the end of road
E, you will be at the gates of Point Pelee National Park.

Please Note: Point Pelee National Park DOES NOT have ANY signage to assist
you when you take the county road 37/ road 19 route. A Map-Art or Google map
is recommended.

I hope that this will help to prevent much misplaced mileage.
