Hi Everyone
This morning at around 6:30am while scanning the waterfowl off Owen
Point I observed an adult male hybrid Common x Barrow's Goldeneye. It was
displaying to a female Common Goldeneye using the head movements of a
Barrow's Goldeneye. I watched it till 7:30am and it stayed in the same area,
just south west of the point. It was very similar to the Ottawa hybrid with
a partial crescent on its head and no black spur on its side. Its head shape
was more like a Barrow's Goldeneye. Check the OFO website photo's for the
Ottawa bird.
The waterfowl viewing was excellent off calf pasture and I had 20
species of waterfowl including good numbers of Redhead and Canvasback. The
Tufted Titmouse was very vocal, singing along Paxton Drive near the
Lighthouse parking lot. Last night at dusk, I heard 5 American Woodcock
between the park store and the park entrance.
