The Snowy Owl was still present near Eagleson/Akins on Saturday, March 19th.
It was seen in the very late afternoon until sunset. On Sunday, March 20th an
American Kestrel was seen perched on the poles and wires along and near
Kilmaur/Dunrobin. It was flying around quite a bit in the general area. This
was around 3pm.

Went to the Waterfowl Festival at Presqu'ile Prov. Park today (Sunday). It was
disappointing with the best viewing at Calf Pasture Point. As the interpretor
said, it is too early this year. All the places for them to go are still
frozen. Apparently, last year the two weekends chosen were a couple of weeks
too late. He figures the best time this year will be in about 10 days from now
(wait for a wind from the south). There were about 3-4 thousand birids, the
usual suspects and a bonus snowy owl on the ice barely visable in a scope with
a crow friend nearby. On our way back we decided to tour Prince Edward County
back along Hwy 2 and right on Hwy 33. Saw a motley red tailed hawk, two flocks
of well fed wild turkeys and the best surprise: about 3 thousand ducks in an
ice bound bay at the quaint village of Wellington, easily viewable from your
car seat. 2 GGO's on wires just outside of Belleville on Hwy 37 completed our
day on the way back to Ottawa.

Greetings all
Finally had the chance to get out and take a tour of the western parts of
Ottawa to check how many GGO where out and about and was surpised at how many
are still in the area. 4 where seen in and around the Dunrobin Killmaurs rd
area and several others where spotted furthur east near eagle creek golf
course, 2 others where seen in the Thomas Dolan Parkway, 2nd line road and a
further 9 where on March Valley Rd (where once again a couple photographers
where busy chasing one around the field) . All in all 19 different birds where
seen with very little effort between 4:45 and 6:45. Not as many as the mondo
Strix period a couple months back but a respectable number none the less.
            Mark
