There is a Hawk Owl in Bolton usually found hunting close to the
railroad tracks at the bridge on #50 on the south side of town.
It has been here for about 6 days but was not seen by anyone
yesterday. This morning at 11 am, it was perched along the rail line
on the east side of #50 behind Home Hardware Building Centre near the
  stacks of lumber.

On Fri. Feb. 4 at approx. 5:10 pm I saw an adult Bald Eagle fly over =
Chippawa Parkway in Niagara Falls (Ont.). It was very low, leading me =
to believe it had just risen from the edge of the Welland River. Given =
Bill Watson's very interesting email I now think it must have been one =
of those birds, and that if you are in the Falls area you should keep a =
close eye on all and any of the waterways.

It was seen on the westmost end of Chippawa Pkwy, ~3 km from the Niagara =
River.

During the morning hours along Hall's Rd. and Lakeridge Rd. in southwest
Whitby I was able to see 5 perched Red-tailed Hawks, one having no
belly-bar, 3 Great Gray Owls, 1 N.Harrier and a N.Shrike. This was the first
day that our "resident" Barred Owl elected not to perch near the north path
entry.
During a mid-afternoon snowfall I returned, and was happy to see the female
Pileated Woodpecker working away on a westside tree. To those who come to
see this bird and fail, I'm sorry--you simply have to patiently wait!! Among
12 Red-winged Blackbirds was 1 Rusty. I have been asked to keep my eyes open
for a Brewer's-- no luck yet.

The Winter 2005 issue of ONTARIO BIRDING NEWS is out--I invite you to turn
to p.9 for "C'mon in - the Water's Fine"--it relates my fortunate observing
of GGOs bathing in the roadside ditch, thereby having difficulty flying to
get voles which had been forced out of the ground on the BIG THAW DAY of
January 12. I shall photocopy it for any who wish it and see me at my
outdoors "office".

Hall's Rd. and Lakeridge Rd. run south off Victoria St.(Bayly in Ajax) in
southwest Whitby.

Doug Lockrey, Whitby
