Justin Ripley and I spent the day birding the mainland around the Kingston area. Good sightings include 3 GLAUCOUS GULLS at the Napanee Landfill site, 1 GREAT GRAY OWL and 1 NORTHERN SHRIKE just south of Enterprise, 1 NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL and 50 COMMON REDPOLLS at Heritage Park in Bath and 4 TRUMPETER SWANS, 1 BALD EAGLE and 6 PINE GROSBEAKS in Jones Falls.
Good Birding Bruce Ripley Napanee Landfill site is north of the 401 from exit 570. Take the first right off County Rd. 10 which is Beachwood Road and the site is on the left. Must get permission to view from the parking lot. Heritage Park is 20 km. west of Kingston on hwy. 33 in Bath. On the east side of town look for Heritage Drive and drive south to the end. The Saw-Whet was in the Red Cedars behind the house with the bird feeders. Jones Falls is roughly 30 min. north of Kingston just off hwy 15. There is a little open water by the locks near Hotel Kinney.
