On Saturday there were 18 Great Blue Herons tucked into the SE corner of the Nanticoke Power Generating plant with a 19th out on the ice by the open water off the power plant. Approximately 10 Bald Eagles were in the air or sitting out on the ice by the open water. These birds were mostly immatures of all ages with a couple of adults. 8 Tundra Swans were observed on the water. One of the 4 Tufted Titmice coming to a feeder along the South Shore Drive beside Stoney Creek was located. Around 40 Red-tailed Hawks were along the 4th line between the McKenzie Rd and #6. Also alone the 2nd line between the same 2 roads were several flocks of Horned Larks and Snow Buntings. Short-eared Owls have started to reappear at their usual haunts after disappearing around Christmas when heavy snow followed by a thick coating of frozen rain made hunting almost impossible leading to a mass exodus of owls and Northern Harriers
