Excuse my spelling and Grammar, I am Dyslexic thank you. I am sorry for not adding this to my last post but I do fell it is important to point out that Halls Rd is a public rood and there is a lot of none birder traffic on it ! Today I saw up to 7 people standing in the middle of the rood looking at GGOW and not moving for on coming traffic also their was one car that drove off the rood and one birder walked right out in front of a on coming car !! We all no that the Owl invasion is just out of this world and seeing them is wonderful But pleas try to keep your wits about you and stand to the side of the rood and park your cars so that their not out in to traffic And will keep all the nabours that aren't birders happy and the rest of us alive Craig Craig & Bev McLauchlan Toronto, Ont, Canada the World

So here goes again.Friday morning,(Jan. 21st) I had a very interesting sighting here at Port Burwell, (30 km,west of LongPoint on Lake Erie). There is still lots of open water with pack ice perhaps one half mile out. Perfectly clear, sunny, a balmy -18C, at 11:17 a.m. the time of the sighting. An amazing 23 Sandhill cranes circling slowly perhaps 150 feet up moving very gradually westward along the lakeshore. I watched them for perhaps 5 minutes as they moved gradually west, rising and falling as they circled. I have never seen cranes here in January let alone a flock of over 20 birds! The extremely cold night probably has them rethinking their wintering location. I'm thinking these birds are probably some of the Turkey-point marsh population?Does anyone know if, and how many cranes were counted in the Long Point CBC?For birders west of my position keep an eye and ear out for these birds especially if you are birding close to Lake Erie from Port Bruce to Pelee. However, this = weekend they were seen even closer to the road than I've noticed in past = weeks. =20 On Saturday, Jan. 23rd they were very active nearer the road from about = 8-10am. As the morning got on they seemed to move further back from the = road. I saw one perched on a small post at the corner of Klondike and = March Valley around 7:30am or so doing its morning business. Early = morning is the best time to see them along Klondike near to March = Valley road (speaking from my experience only). As the sun rises and = the morning progresses they seem to be less noticeable along Klondike. Sunday morning was another great time to see the Great Gray Owl. I = along with a few other people got to spend some quality time viewing one = particular owl from close up for about 30 minutes if not more. It was = very alert (at least when I first saw it), quickly spinning its head on = occasion as if it heard a noise (of a prey perhaps) but I didn't hear = what it was hearing of course. It made at least one or more dives to = the snow covered ground below. =20 I also saw the Great Gray Owl scratching itself (at least that's what it = appeared to be doing). It raised one leg to its head area in a few = rapid movements...like it was trying to get rid of an itch...if in fact = that was what it was doing it for. I didn't know they did that. I = suppose owls get the itch too :) From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon Jan 24 07:18:05 2005 Return-Path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Delivered-To: [email protected] Received: from tomts20-srv.bellnexxia.net (tomts20.bellnexxia.net [209.226.175.74]) by king.hwcn.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D2936645A1 for <[email protected]>; Mon, 24 Jan 2005 07:18:04 -0500 (EST) Received: from personaldil636 ([64.230.105.82]) by tomts20-srv.bellnexxia.netSMTP <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> for <[email protected]>; Mon, 24 Jan 2005 07:18:18 -0500 Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> From: "Ott User" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Date: Mon, 24 Jan 2005 07:18:37 -0500 MIME-Version: 1.0 X-Priority: 3 X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2900.2180 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2900.2180 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Content-Filtered-By: Mailman/MimeDel 2.1.1 Subject: [Ontbirds]Some of our owls heading farther south X-BeenThere: [email protected] X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 24 Jan 2005 12:18:05 -0000 I hope it is OK to relate some of this interesting information on the = Great Gray, Snowy, Boreal and Hawk Owls.
