On Christmas Day we went for a drive to see if the Great Grey Owls on
Torbolton Ridge Road that were reported on the 24th were still present.
In total we saw 7 Great Grey Owls: two near 4165 Torbolton Ridge Road,
two overlooking the north field at the corner of Torbolton Ridge Road
and Kinburn Side Road, and three more south east on Torbolton Ridge
Road. That is more sightings in one hour than I have seen in the rest of
my years birding. An unexpected and memorable Christmas present!
We also saw a Bald Eagle at the corner of Riddell Drive and 6th Line
Road, and a Great Horned Owl along Vance's Side Road east of Dunrobin Road.
Directions: Torbolton Ridge Road is north west of Kanata and can be
accessed from the Kinburn Side Road. Both Highway 17 (at Antrim) and the
Dunrobin Road (at Woodlawn) will take you to the Kinburn Side Road
