Hello all:
The Great Gray Owl that was at my home on Bulmer's Road near Fenelon Falls on
Friday Dec 17 and Saturday Dec 18, has not been seen since. However, a Great
Gray Owl was seen on Monday, Dec 20 about 7 kilometres south west of here on
the outskirts of Fenelon Falls near the intersection of Highway 121 and
Northline Road. I checked behind the Candle Shop and Storage business today at
4:00 p.m. and could not locate it.

Directions: From 401 take Highway 35 approx 60 kms north through Lindsay to
the Fenelon Falls exit at Highway 121.

Today I spent four hours combing Rattray Marsh to look for some the 'big
misses' on Peel-Halton CBC last saturday ... and also try to relocated the
titmouse. I met Leon (his last name escapes me) and he had no success ...
so I spent a bit of time birding with two other birders (again I'm terrible
with names) who also had not found the titmouse. So we parted I walked the
marsh on both sides of creek (which is mostly frozen) which separates Jack
Darling Park and Rattray marsh, and found several American Tree Sparrows,
one Lincoln's Sparrow and three Song Sparrows ... in bend in the creek were
some major springs form a large fen and a lot of tangled, fallen willows,
bulrushes and dogwoods, I hit the mother-load: 3+ Carolina Wrens (one
singing), 1 Swamp Sparrow (singing), 8+ Winter Wrens, a Yellow-rumped
Warbler and 20+ American Trees Sparrows. This fen is located directly
behind a very large 'modern' house with a large lawn area with a timber edge
adjacent to the fen ... and is located direction on the site line from the
bridge over the creek to termination of the bend in the creek.
Elsewhere along the inner boards walks I found three more Winter Wrens ...
also fair numbers of robins (12+), waxings (20+), creepers (3),
Golden-crowned Kinglets (5) and the other usual suspects. If you wish to
walk the stream ... wear waterproof hiking boots or rubber boot ... your
feet will definately get wet.

Directions: It is easiest to drive south through Jack Darling Park (located
just south of Lakeshore about 500 meters west of Clarkson/and near Erin
Mills Parkway), parking in the western-most parking lot and walk west about
200 meters to the creek.
