In cooperation with the Minnesota winter owl survey, Brian Moore and I toured
the rural areas around Thunder Bay today and tallied 24 Great Gray Owls, 1
Northern Hawk Owl, and 6 Northern Shrikes.

This is a banner year for Great Grays in our area.

Hello Ontbirders

After a successful "twitch" with Jeff's Boreal Owl in Constance Bay (still
present at 3:00pm), we decided to drive south of Ottawa where we found one
Short-eared Owl hunting over a scrubby field along Brophy Drive (between
Twin Elm & 3rd Line). We later saw two Short-eared Owls hunting in a field
along Earl Armstrong Road, northwest of the "S" curve. At a distance, 12
Turkeys perched in a tree, southwest of the "S" curve. As a bonus, we later
saw a Great Horned Owl perched on top of a bare tree near the corner of
River Road and Limebank.
