Ontbirders,

Today at about 2:00 p.m. Winnie Poon discovered a juvenile Pacific Loon in
Lake Ontario off Humber Bay Park West in Toronto. It was with an adult
Red-throated Loon and six adult Common Loons.

Winnie contacted me to come and see these loons and I arrived about 2:45
p.m. We watched the juvenile Pacific Loon more or less continuously (at
distances varying from 60 to 400 metres off shore) until about 4:35 p.m.

A big thank you to Winnie for calling me to come and confirm this sighting.

Directions:

>From the corner of Parklawn Rd. and Lakeshore Rd. W. in Etobicoke, drive a
short distance west until the entrance to Humber Bay Park West immediately
to the west of the bridge over Mimico Creek. Turn south (left)into Humber
Bay Park West and follow the road south to the lake past the parking lot of
the Toronto Police Marine Unit. The road will curve right (west) at the
lake. Follow around this curve and park in the first parking lot on the
left. All eight loons were seen off the point beyond this parking lot.

Observers: Terry Angevine

Weather:
Today was sunny for the most part but with frequent cloudy periods,
especially in the middle portions of the day. Winds were moderate
west-northwest.

Observations:
Much of the flight was before noon, dropping off sharply in the afternoon.
Certainly the flight was a bit lighter than expected particularly given
the strong start to the day and what seemed like ideal conditions. Perhaps
we are beginning our November wind down.

As yesterday there were several large flocks of Tundra Swans that moved
through the area as well as three Sandhill Cranes.
