Only the 2nd time out for Jaki, her first trip was with the Stratford Field Naturalists two weeks before. :) Weather: Very cool today with a high to jst 6. Strong NE winds eventually switching to E in early afternoon. Basically, 100% cloud cover for the day. TUV=1 (Very Poor) Observations: Tuesday, started and stayed at Sharpie alley for the flight. A good mix today with a total of 12 different species counted including a nice Rough-leg, Peregrine and more Red-shouldered Hawks. Had a imm. Bald Eagle at 11:45 and then a Juvenile Bald Eagle at 12:58 being mobbed by starlings. It was amazing how they just swarmed and "balled" around it. Left a short time after that and found the eagle sitting in the field to the west of Hawk Cliff with the starlings probably 20 yards away. There was a deer carcass closer to the road and whether that is what the eagle came to the ground for or perhaps the starling's harrassed him to the ground, I don't know. While I sat there watching the starlings took to the air again as 11 crows came in and started harassing the eagle. He took off, but was barely able to fly for the crows actually hitting him. It probably took a good 3 - 4 minutes of him trying to out-manouever the crows to get enough height to clear the woods then eventually disappear from veiw into the trees. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Dave Brown ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) Hawk Cliff Hawkwatch information may be found at: http://www.ezlink.on.ca/~thebrowns/HawkCliff/index.htm Hawk Cliff Hawkwatch: Oldest Hawkwatch in Ontario - since 1931 - located just east of Port Stanley on the cliff overlooking Lake Erie
