Hi,
The current cold front brought the first Golden-crowned Kinglets and Fox
Sparrow of the season. The Fox Sparrow was feeding with Whitethroats along
a newly cleared bird banding net lane from the Meadow down to the edge of
the Corbett Creek valley. Numerous warblers and a number of both Red-eyed
and Blue-headed Vireos were feeding in the brushy margin along the northeast
edge of the Meadow. At least four Eastern Phoebe's were catching insects at
the beaver pond. Bluejays were moving westward in flocks of 100 or more and
a few Goldfinches seems to be travelling along with them. Red-breasted
Nuthatches have been migrating in increasing numbers for the past couple of
weeks.
During yesterday's Nature Festival, reported birds included Dark-eyed
Juncos and Brown Creepers, as well as Gray-cheeked, Swainson's and Wood
Thrushes. An Olive-sided Flycatcher spent much of the day at the north end
of the Meadow. Among the fifteen species of warblers were a Blue-wing and a
Northern Parula. Four Bald Eagles and a dark phase Broadwing were spotted
by Rayfield Pye at the hawk watching station in the Meadow.

To reach Thickson's Woods exit from 401 to Thickson Road South in
Whitby. Proceed south past Wentworth Street to the Waterfront Trail. Turn
left, turn around and park on the north side of the road. Enter the woods
on a path from
the south side, about 200 metres east of Thickson Road. Follow the trails
through the woods, some of which access the Lake Ontario shore. To view the
beaver pond and Corbett Creek Marsh continue east about 100 metres past the
entrance to the woods. The meadow is across the Waterfront Trail
immediately north of the woods. The entrance is directly across the
waterfront trail from the entrance to the woods. To view a map,
