Hi Everyone
Today, September 15, 2004 I lead a trip along the Ottawa River between
Shirley's Bay and Deschenes Rapids/Britannia. There was no exposed mudflat due
to the record rainfall last Thursday, so no shorebirds were observed. At
Shirley's Bay we did see 2 Great Egret, 1 imm. Bald Eagle and an adult
Peregrine. Overall landbirds were quiet except for a few warblers, mainly
Yellow-rumped, B.T.Green and N.Parula. Later on I did a quick check further
east along the river at Remic Rapids and saw the earlier reported Whimbrel. It
was feeding on the lawn right beside the parking lot. It appears that this
individual has been present since at least August 30th.
Along the Carp River at Richardson Side Road there was a Great Egret
feeding in a flooded field, probably one of the earlier Shirley's Bay birds.
On September 13th, the family of Red-headed Woodpecker were still foraging in
the old burn site at Constance Bay.
