Following John Schmelefske's earlier posting re Buff-breasted Sandpipers near Beeton, Don Perks, Jerry Guild and myself journeyed there mid-afternoon to see if the two birds he had reported were still there. In fact not only were they, but an additional 7 birds were observed bringing our total to 9 Buff-breasted Sandpipers.
We did however, find only one of the 69 Golden Plovers that he had found nearby. The Buff-breasted Sandpipers were in a recently de-sodded field on the southwest corner of the intersection of the 15th sideroad and the 10th line of Tecumseth. To reach the 15th sideroad go east from the town of Beeton about 2 kilometres along the Beeton road and turn north (just off the Beeton path). The 10th line is the second sideroad north. The tilled fields east of this field have many Horned Lards and a few days ago there was a Lapland Longspur. To see the Golden Plover, take the 9th line west from the 15th sideroad and search the recently cleared sod fields to the south about half a kilometre down Terry Osborne From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon Sep 6 19:29:14 2004 Return-Path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Delivered-To: [email protected] Received: from taiga.com (mugwump.taiga.com [68.165.54.133]) by king.hwcn.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9990947F9F for <[email protected]>; Mon, 6 Sep 2004 19:29:14 -0400 (EDT) Received: (qmail 7924 invoked by uid 525); 6 Sep 2004 23:22:09 -0000 Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [email protected] From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: 06 Sep 2004 07:09:09 -0400 Subject: [Ontbirds]HSR: SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark (06 Sep 2004) 36 Raptors X-BeenThere: [email protected] X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 06 Sep 2004 23:29:15 -0000 SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark Michigan, USA Daily Raptor Counts: Sep 06, 2004 ------------------------------------------------------------------- Species Day's Count Month Total Season Total ------------------ ----------- -------------- -------------- Black Vulture 0 0 0 Turkey Vulture 8 70 70 Osprey 6 44 44 Bald Eagle 2 9 9 Northern Harrier 0 28 28 Sharp-shinned Hawk 14 67 67 Cooper's Hawk 3 10 10 Northern Goshawk 0 0 0 Red-shouldered Hawk 0 0 0 Broad-winged Hawk 0 137 137 Red-tailed Hawk 0 11 11 Rough-legged Hawk 0 0 0 Golden Eagle 0 0 0 American Kestrel 3 24 24 Merlin 0 3 3 Peregrine Falcon 0 1 1 Unknown 0 0 0 Total: 36 404 404 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Observation start time: 07:00:00 Observation end time: 15:00:00 Total observation time: 8 hours Official Counter: Calvin Brennan Observers: Dave Mendus, Jeff Schultz, Matt Pety, Paul Cypher Visitors: John Bostek Jr. Vince and Barb Ste.
