Today Wednesday Sept 1st 04, I spent the better part of the afternoon walking
around Cootes in Hamilton. Walking the south shore trail from Cootes road I
found two Great Egrets and a Great Blue Heron, these spooked and flew across an
expanse of open water on the right of the trail, coming to rest beside the
rushes on the far side of the open water they scared up the White Pelican. The
Pelican did a once around and then settled back in a little further from me
than when it started. I waited 45 minutes but it never came back up for another
viewing. Along the same trail there was an abundance of Warblers including a
couple of Connecticut Warblers and there was several Vireos around.
Off to the north trail for quick look see brought me the fortune of seeing the
Pileated Woodpecker right near the backs of the houses near the start of the
trails. More Warblers and Vireos here too as well as several Veery.

Good birding to all
